A new funding scheme, with a cash pot of over £30,000, is being launched by the Midsomer Norton & Radstock Chamber of Commerce to promote Midsomer Norton town centre.

The source of the funding is a grant originally agreed in 2005 to help the town and its businesses adjust to the impact on Midsomer Norton town centre of the development of the Tesco store. As such the grant was provided soley on condition that it would be used to promote Midsomer Norton Town centre.

“This fund represents a fabulous opportunity to promote Midsomer Norton’s town centre and help take the town forward. Launching the funding scheme is just one element of our ongoing plan to develop the Chamber and reach out to grass roots businesses in the Somer Valley", said Paul Myers, Chairman of Midsomer Norton & Radstock Chamber of Commerce.

There have been consultations and discussions over the years on what the money should be spent on. The Chamber members agreed that the fairest approach was to set up a fund, which organisations could apply to for grant funding. Applications will be reviewed by a group of eight local business people called the “Stakeholder Group”, who will recommend which projects should be funded.

Organisations are therefore being invited to apply for grants to carry out projects that promote the economic viability and public perception of Midsomer Norton High Street and which also increase the number of people coming to the town to shop.

If you have an idea for a project please contact the Chamber to request a grant application pack.

The deadline for the first round of applications is Friday 26th March 2010.
