The Chamber's roots go back to 1933 when the Midsomer Norton Glass Plate Society was formed as a mutual group amongst the local retailers to fund the replacement and improve security of their retail premises. In 1967 at a meeting held at the Grey Hound Hotel it was resolved to form the Norton Radstock & District Chamber of Commerce taking its name from the then Norton Radstock Urban District Council.

In 2003 the members further resolved to incorporate the Chamber, following consent from the Secretary of State, using the same name and adopting a model for its Memorandum & Articles of Association provided by the British Chambers of Commerce. At that time the Chamber took over the affairs of the Midsomer Norton Traders Association and also the Radstock Traders Association which now form the basis of the Retail Traders sub-committee.

In 2004 the new incorporated Chamber changed its name to the Midsomer Norton & Radstock Chamber of Commerce to represent the two towns and 14 parishes of the district.  Membership subscription is £30 per annum.

The Chamber of Commerce is a statutory consultee and is subject to the provisions of the Companies Act 1985 in the regulation of its affairs.

The Chamber has established strong links with neighboring Chambers in the Chew Valley and Keynsham though the North East Somerset Chamber Partnership in which it seeks to represent both members and business as a whole at local, regional and national government level.

The Chamber is managed entirely on a voluntary basis and is funded solely through membership sunscriptions thus maintaining complete independence.

The Chamber is an affiliate of GWBEBusiness West and Industry thus ensuring all members are published in the Regional Directory and can further avail themselves of the facilities and services are provided through GWBEBusiness West through the Chamber.

The Chamber also maintains close contact with the Dorset Chamber of Commerce, British Chambers of Commerce, Federation of Small Businesses and Forum for Private Business.

Locally the Chamber has worked in partnership with various agencies such as BaNES, Norton Radstock Town Council, Somerset Farmers Market and Avon and Somerset Police in help developing
